Today the QS World University Rankings results have been updated. The QS WUR general list includes 48 Russian universities, 21 of them are Project 5-100 participants.

Strengthening of positions and promotion of the Russian universities in the QS institutional ranking was mainly made thanks to Project 5-100 universities. In comparison with last year, the representation of the Russian higher schools has grown from 32 to 48, and for the first time all participants of the Project 5-100 are represented in the ranking. Moreover, out of 17 Russian universities in the top 500 of the QS ranking, 13 are Project 5-100 participants . Thus, the systematic approach to the Russian universities modernization and globalization which has been used in Russia recently gave significant results in promoting of the Russian higher education system in the international arena, ”said Boris Filippov, Project 5-100 Office Head.

The greatest dynamics among the Project 5-100 participants was demonstrated by the Far Eastern Federal University, which moved up 32 positions compared to last year, and Kazan Federal University - 23 positions up.

For the first time, the QS institutional ranking includes such Project 5-100 participants as Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, Sechenov University that took positions in the range from 651 to 700 range, as well as Tyumen State University, which was included in the ranking at 801-1000 positions.

The Baltic Federal Federal University has been working for a long time to improve the academic reputation of the university. This is not an instant gratification. It is the result of the university planned development and its recognition in the scientific expert community world as an advanced scientific and educational center. We will continue to work to promote and improve the university brand and expand the IKBFU influence not only as a classical university, but also as a major actor in public relations taking an active part in the life of the region, the country and the world. Our strategic goal is to enter top 500 of the QS rating, ”stressed Alexander Fedorov, IKBFU rector.

QS World University Ranking is based on the assessment of universities according to the following indicators:

1. Academic reputation (40% of the total score)

2. Employer reputation (10%)

3. Faculty/student ratio (20%)

4. Citations per faculty (20%)

5. International Faculty Ratio(5%)

6. International Student Ratio (5%)

Most Russian universities have improved their performance compared to 2020 in terms of the main indicator and one of the most difficult indicators for the Russian universities, i.e.“Academic reputation”. This means that the Russian universities recognition by the international expert academic community tends to expand.

The world top 500 by this indicator includes two new universities, both Project 5-100 participants - Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and RUDN University. Thus, the number of Russian universities represented in the top 500 according to this indicator has grown from eight to ten.

This year we see an increase in MIPT academic reputation reflecting the changes that took place at MIPT during the Project 5-100 implementation. More than 80 laboratories have been created, now they have reached a serious scientific level: they participate in a large number of grants, projects, and, more importantly, the volume of commissioned research work in the the industrial sector of our economics is growing. If we compare MIPT indicators during Project 5-100 implementation the volume of scientific research carried out at MIPT increased from 1.3 to 4 billion rubles, ”said Vitaly Bagan, MIPT Vice-Rector for Research.

A positive trend in a number of Russian universities is also observed in the indicator “International Stident Ratio”. At the same time RUDN University and the National Research Tomsk State University are consistently in the top 100 for this indicator. Seven Russian universities got places in the top 200, 15 - in the top 300. At the same time, 11 of the designated universities are Project 5-100 participants.

Russian higher educational institutions have traditionally demonstrated high results within the indicator " Faculty/student ratio ": 15 universities entered the top 100, including 11 Project 5-100 participants.

The QS WUR-2021 has confirmed that the universities participating in Project 5-100 play a significant role in strengthening and expanding the Russian universities positions in the global educational space.
