The honorary title was awarded to heads of universities from eight federal districts of Russia. At the same time, four awards were received by the rectors of the universities of Project 5-100: Eduard Galazhinsky (Tomsk State University), Ilshat Gafurov (Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University), Nikita Anisimov (Far Eastern Federal University), Viktor Koksharov (Ural Federal University).

The award was established by the all-Russian public organization "Russian Professors' Assembly". Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, and Vladislav Grib, Chairman of the Russian Professors' Assembly, presented the winners with diplomas and medals in a solemn atmosphere. “This is the first prize in the history of Russia when the professorial community - the scientific elite of Russia - gives an independent public assessment to the rectors. We assessed the rector's contribution in a comprehensive manner using a set of indicators. And it was not specific universities that were assessed, but the personality of their leaders, ”noted Vladislav Grib.

Among the evaluation criteria, the jury, headed by the chairman of the Professorship Support Association Sergei Stepashin, considered the contribution of each rector to the development of the university, reputation and personal achievements, as well as the degree of development of university ties with the business and scientific community, international cooperation, media activity, innovation and the degree of digitalization of the university. ... “There are thousands of collectives behind you. In this difficult time, it is especially important to organize work individually with each student and pay attention to the support of teachers, ”- said Valery Falkov. According to the Minister, in a pandemic situation, the importance of the rector as a leader and a person capable of making responsible decisions has multiplied.
