On July 30, the International Information Group "Interfax" summed up the results of the 337 major domestic universities for 2020.

14 universities of Project 5-100 performed great results and were included in the Top-20 of the National University Ranking –2020.

The Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov took the first place, scoring 1000 points. The National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI" took second place, losing 37 points to the leader. The National Research University "Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology" (MIPT) closed the group of TOP-3 with similar results.

In order for the experts to assess the qualifications of a particular participant, the compilers of the rating collected and systemized public data posted on the official Internet resources of universities, on the website of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, in the SPARK and SCAN systems. Then, the university officials filled out questionnaires supplementing information on the six main criteria for evaluating the work of universities: educational activities; research activities; social environment; internationalization (international cooperation); brand; innovation, and technological entrepreneurship.

The rector of NRNU MEPhI, Mikhail Nikolaevich Strikhanov, commented on the news about entering the TOP-3 National ranking: "An application campaign to the Russian universities is in progress now. The release of the ranking results at this very moment is important for thousands of applicants and their parents. The second place of NRNU MEPhI in the rating shows its high potential of the university, which trains specialists in the most demanded areas. Undoubtedly, this result was achieved thanks to the work of the entire staff of the university, aimed at improving the quality of education of our Russian and foreign students, developing new research areas, improving the entire infrastructure of the university".

Vitaly Bagan, Vice-Rector for Research and Development Programs at MIPT, commented on the 3rd place in the ranking: "MIPT, due to the implementation of Project 5-100, is now represented in all rankings. Now, we are among the 3 best universities in the country according to the Interfax ranking and we see the positive growth dynamics, primarily associated with such an important aspect as innovation, where MIPT has become the leader. It is very important for us that the results of the scientific laboratories work, which were created within the framework of Project 5-100, are put into practice and our scientists develop technologies that will subsequently bring real benefits".

As a reminder, the Interfax Group has been compiling the National University Ranking since 2010. The main task that the organizers set themselves is the formation and adjustment of mechanisms and procedures for an impartial assessment of domestic universities and their activities based on open data. Thus, the ranking contributes to improving the image of universities and develops healthy competition between the universities at the federal and regional levels. We can add that the ranking has evaluated the activities of 29 national research universities, 10 federal, 33 pivotal and 7 non-state universities among 337 leading universities in Russia.
