July 3, 2019

The Times Higher Education (THE) list the world’s best universities that were established between 1945 and 1967.

The Golden Age ranking includes the top 271 universities that are older than 50 years old but under 80. THE explains that the ranking takes its name from what was a Golden Age in global higher education, characterised by rapid university expansion and increasing investment in research.

Russia has seven institutions in the ranking. Three Project 5-100 universities are the Russian ranking’s leaders. Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) is rated 35th. It is followed by Novosibirsk State University (NSU) (83) and RUDN University (RUDN), which features in the 101-150 band.

In this year's league table Russia is also represented by Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU) (151-200) and a group of universities making the 251+ band: MIREA - Russian Technological University (RTU MIREA), National Research University of Electronic Technology (MIET), Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU) .

The THE Golden Age ranking uses  the THE World University Rankings data and performance indicators, including teaching (the learning environment); research (volume, income and reputation), international outlook (staff, students and research); citations (research influence); industry income (knowledge transfer).

This ranking has been released in conjunction with the Young University Rankings, which lists the best universities under 50 years old. This ranking was produced using the same methodology as the World University Rankings, which can be viewed here.
